Just about every shop is touting a Memorial Day Sale this weekend but they're not all created equal. There are three areas of the home that see deeper discounts than others over this holiday weekend. Check out the best kinds of sales to hit after the jump...
We visited a lot of mattress companies this past weekend at the High Point Market, but this little spot took the cake in terms of great, smart, funny advertising. The timing and deadpan quality are perfect. Check it out. :)
My Year in Bed never seems to end as I continue to get folks wanting me to try their mattresses. This is the twelfth one, and it's a great education. The latest test was a unique offering: an under $1k Saatva, which comes from a new company that is attempting to bring luxury elements to a more affordable, one price mattress. Nutshell review? While not really the same as the other expensive luxury mattresses I tried (over $3k), Saatva has carefully engineered their offering to deliver a good mattress at an excellent price.
John and Yoko famously had their bed-in, in which they spent two weeks in bed as a way to promote peace. Fast forward to 2010 and our own Maxwell Ryan spent a year in bed to promote better sleep. OK, he didn't actually spend an entire year in bed — but he did spend a year testing a new mattress in his own home every month. Let's look back at his findings...
A couple years ago, we wrote about buckwheat hull mattress toppers from Open Your Eyes Bedding, which are a great natural solution for neck and back pain. Now, the company has expanded its line to include DIY (no-sew!) mattress kits using the same environmentally friendly filling.

Come along for a tour, courtesy of the Hammer family, who have run Shifman since 1985.
When was the last time you unzipped your mattress, washed its cover and fluffed up its inner workings? Oh, that's right - you can't really do that with a normal mattress! That explains why the concept of building a DIY mattress that can be cleaned, refreshed and revived seems so novel and brilliant.
When we rounded up Affordable Sleeper Chairs & Ottomans as options for hosting overnight guests in small spaces last week, we heard from a lot of commenters that they rely on air mattresses. Indeed, air mattresses have come a long way. While they were once considered torture, they're now just as (and maybe more) comfortable than a lot of convertible sofas and chairs. Check out our top 5 picks for inflatable mattresses and weigh in with your own opinions in the comments.
