Our very first bedroom design contest has just wrapped! It's been fantastic to get a glimpse inside of so many unique bedrooms and the mix of styles represented has been varied and wonderful; a real look at real life everyday retreats. Without further ado, it's time to announce and celebrate our winners. The two top rooms are both beautifully designed - the Apartment Therapy readers chose well...
MoreToday's the day! After a month of posting beautiful, inspiring rooms (178 in total) and collecting up all the "favorite" votes (over 20,000!) we're down to these four fantastic rooms. It's not an easy choice - will you go for the well-designed city studio, the elegant jewel box small space, the wonderfully wallpapered and textured master or the bright, simple and stylish white walled bedroom? The final choice is all yours...
MoreWe've noticed many of our favorite submissions from My Bedroom Retreat showcase an array of artwork situated above the bed. Paintings, graphic prints, oversized photographs, and even decorative sculptural pieces...they're all a crown to the head of where we slumber. But in the process of gathering up some of our favorites, we noticed half of these artfully arranged entries came accompanied with furry companions comfortably situated below (including a pillow which almost passes for a pet)...
First of all, I apologize if the title of this post put a certain AC/DC song in your head. I couldn't help myself. As I've been putting together all of the My Bedroom Retreat contest posts over the past four weeks, I noticed a definite trend of black bedroom walls. Take a look at ten of these dark hued rooms, and you just might find yourself back in black.
MoreHere we are in the final week of the My Bedroom Retreat contest and we're still reeling from all the amazing rooms we've seen. We've posted so many gorgeous bedrooms to the site in the past week that you might have missed a few. Check out this roundup of a few of the week's new entries and be sure to dig back in and revisit all the inspiring bedrooms.
How do you feel about your bedroom? Is it a calming sanctuary from the busyness and overstimulation of the outside world? Or is it an energizing space where you gather together all of your favorite colors and favorite things? There was plenty of evidence of both of these approaches in our bedroom retreat contest. Less is more, but sometimes more is even more.

- What do you love about your bedroom?:
- We love that our bedroom is a room that we love being in. But we didn't always love it. It took two years and three paint color changes to find what we wanted. We salvaged the headboard from the trash room in our building, built the nightstands, built a sliding barn door to serve as the window treatment, built a small makeup room from an unused closet space, installed sliding doors to close off the space from the living room, and only bought the things (like art and bedding) that we felt we couldn't live without. We love that we took the time and put in the work to create a beautiful room, but in the end what matters most is that we love how we feel when weâre in there.
