Reader Emily spotted this delightfully Seussian art installation at a local park in Seattle:

We just created this wonderful space — what I now call my "happy place." Last May, a huge tree fell on our house during a weird spring burst of a storm. Once we determined that we were all safe (we sat in the family room, looking out the sliding-glass doors, watching the tree fall!) we realized how lucky we were that the damage was really very minimal — mostly to the siding, part of the roof and the rails on our ground-level 25-year-old deck, and one broken window.

This garden on States Street is currently my favorite, as it is typical of our own style at Reynolds-Sebastiani Design Services. The garden before was full of challenges and was for the most part not usable and abandoned. The client loves to throw lavish parties and wanted to capitalize on the huge (for San Francisco) lot. However, the elevation changes made that nearly impossible.

Just wanted to share our gutter garden, which we built three years ago and replanted on Earth Day (inadvertently).

Tell us about your outdoor project and how you enjoy it: At the end of a major renovation project we were left with a serious mess and zero cash. Our space is tiny and we were determined to maximize every inch, to include a minute plunge pool and still have loads of seating and lounging options (relatively speaking of course) and a seamless indoor-outdoor flow. Low maintenance being key…
I would like to share my family's unique outdoor space. The weather in our area is warm 8 months of the year, so the splash pad gets great use.

Florianópolis, an awesome city in the south of Brazil, has some lovely places and houses, but as other growing cities, the big trees and even the small plants are suppressed by the urban environment. In this home, I decided to create a comfortable, warm and silent small outdoor space, creating a special haven, a true oasis in Lagoa da Conceição, at Santa Catarina Island. More
I've been gardening in containers for a few years but this year my 2-yr-old was able to help me. We live in an apartment with a relatively small balcony, but I still wanted to create a special place for him that he'd enjoy spending time in. The result was a "toddler snacking garden" (plus my herb garden) with a few magical touches and a play space for little hands.

Tell us about your outdoor project and how you enjoy it: We use our backyard for lounging and playing and growing food. It's fenced in, which is great for our dog and little kids. Additionally, off to one side of the deck we have an herb and vegetable garden, and the kids love to help out. We want our outdoor space to be beautiful and functional. It will always be a work in progress. More
