I was 37 weeks pregnant with my second child when Julien's 3rd birthday rolled around in July. He loves the idea of a party (who doesn't?) and superheroes. I wanted to create an easy backyard breakfast birthday bash for him that required minimal effort, minimal expense, but lots of fun for the kids.
I came across a baby t-shirt that said "Happy Little Man" a few months before my son's first birthday and decided that it was the perfect theme for his first birthday party because he really is a very happy little man! Seriously, this child is just happy to be here. His sunny disposition makes everyone around him happy too.
Our daughter was born amidst a tough year for our family – my mom came down with a rare illness in the last months of my pregnancy. Unsure of the outcome, Sophia’s arrival brought everyone a much needed dose of sunshine.
I would have been happy to host a simple birthday party at home, but the size of my son's entourage has outgrown the size of our apartment so I was on a quest to find a fun, outside alternative. A few subway stops from our neighborhood I discovered a frozen-in-time, old school slot car racing track - the last of its kind in New York City.
