Launching in February at Bloomingdales and his boutiques, fashion designer Oscar de la Renta's 100-piece tableware collection is inspired by his Punta Cana vacation home. Carved teak flatware and bowls, saturated colors, and silver plate sea life are meant to bring some island flair to any table. To that effect serving pieces come with some of De la Renta's favorite recipes.

IDEAS CITY 2013, a follow-up to 2011′s "Festival Ideas for the New City," will fill Manhattan with events and installations May 1-4, and you can design a pavilion. The StreetFest competition is looking for submissions of ten interconnected modular structures that aspire to reinvent a street fair. Deadline for submissions is January 18.

Designed by Richard Neutra, completed in 1962 and originally constructed to house a tableau of Pickett's Charge, the Cyclorama building at Gettysburg will be demolished by the National Parks Service. The modernist structure has had a 15-year battle on whether to keep or raze it. The decision from the NPS is to return the site to its 1863 state, a key portion of the Union battle line and important to the public understanding of what happened at Gettysburg.

There's a breath of fresh air coming to two apartment towers in Milan. The Bosco Verticale are buildings that have staggered concrete platforms along the facade for planting vegetation that will help with dust & CO2, as well as support micro-ecosystems. The addition of the 730 trees, 11,000 ground-cover plants, and 5,000 shrubs that will green the building has begun, with the whole project finished later this year.

Looking for more dimension? Netflix has 3 of them for you. The online video and TV service announced that 3-D films and "Super HD" —1080p video — will be available for streaming content. Unfortunately, these aren't available to everyone; your internet service provider has to support Netflix's Open Connect, and only a few major ones, such as Cablevision and Google Fiber, do so at the moment.

Delve deeper into design with the help of your eReader. The Smithsonian's Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum launches DesignFile, a new line of e-books on design writing and research. Collaborating with partners such as Smithsonian Institution Libraries and Parsons The New School for Design, DesignFile will publish writings from faculty and alumni on an array of design fields and disciplines, as well as masters' theses in design. The first three titles release on February 1 and are $2.99 each.

In Granada, Spain, a pavilion made of 45,000 milk cartons was built in recognition of World Recycling Day. The cartons were recycled from over 100 colleges around the city, and the pavilion as set the Guinness World Record as the largest built structure created from recycled materials.

Softwalks makes seats, tables, lighting, and planters that attach to sidewalk scaffolding, beautifying the area and creating a place for people to stop and hang out without clogging foot traffic. Their temporary spaces have only been up for a day at a time, but their Kickstarter campaign aims to fund a more prolonged set up in various locations around the city.

Lawyer-turned-artist Nathan Sawaya's latest works in Lego bricks are featured in an exhibit called In Pieces, currently on display at the William J. Clinton Presidential Center Library in Little Rock. Clinton is a devoted fan of Sawaya's work, and hosted his show Art of the Brick at the library last year. The exhibit will run through February 1 before moving to New York.
