- Having lived in beige apartments for the last four years I knew I wanted to have some bold color in our first house. When we moved in, the living room had dark brown woodwork and beige walls. I chose a bright white for the trim to make the room feel lighter. Blue is my favorite color, so it was just a matter of choosing the right shade. I went a little darker with the blue than I normally would have because the white woodwork makes the whole room lighter. I brought in yellow and gray with a fun accent chair.

- We wanted something that felt very relaxed and reminded us of the beach. Some of our fondest memories are vacationing with our family on the Florida coast each summer, so we wanted something that reminded us of those great times, but with a more modern approach. The homes down there are very breezy and casual feel and we wanted a little piece of that here in Nashville.

- Our home is constantly changing. We're big fans of color but hate to commit to a bold wall color, only to change it months down the road. A neutral base with pops of color in the accessories is our go-to design strategy. We love how the ounces of yellows and greens bring so much life and energy into the room.

- The red and white duvet started the inspiration. I love mixing of lighter blues with red. I planned to stay away from a "typical" pink or purple room for a little girl and wanted my daughter to have a room that felt happy. It's really a mix of brights with buttery yellow, robin's egg blue and red. I have a lot of more traditional furniture and mixing it with brighter colors gives an interesting contrast in style.

- The first pieces of furniture we bought for this room are the armchairs. We found them in a vintage furniture store in Montreal and loved their color and how comfortable they were. The rest of the room developed around them.

- I didn't want to paint the window trim white, but I also didn't want a dark room. I chose to put a light grey on the walls to offset the dark trim and to work with the yellow tone of the hard wood floors. The inspiration for the color palette of jewel tones --reds, golds, greens and turquoise came directly from my collection of antique Turkmen skull caps.

- I found some amazing 50's fabric from Brimfield market in Massachusetts which was an old lounge chair cover which I turned into cushion covers with a mushroom print and shades of green. That and my teal vintage swivel chair became my color focus. I used the teal and blues in my paintings.
