Your Favorite Thing About Your Outdoor Space: There's a lot of favorite things about my space. I love my garden that allows me to have herbs I cook with and flowers. I also love my vintage buoys purchased from an antique shop in Newport RI. They made for a great accent to spark up the otherwise cold concrete wall. And I love having the opportunity to entertain and host parties with friends and family. When it comes down to it, I feel very fortunate to have such an amazing retreat in a city where rooftop apartments are hard to come by.

Your Favorite Thing About Your Outdoor Space: There are three things I love about this porch. One are our closest current neighbors, cows in the field just in front of the house. We thought they would be a nuisance and bring flies, but they didn't and are actually quite friendly, as well as a good source of inspiration. The other is the view : the mountains are beautiful and everchanging with the weather and the seasons. Finally, the fact that the porch is covered. It means we can be there whenever we like, as long as the temperature allows it. We stayed there during a thunderstorm once, without getting wet yet enjoying every bit of the impressive phenomenon.

Your Favorite Thing About Your Outdoor Space: The colors! I love feeling like I am in the Mediterranean or in Mexico, and yet a warm, colorful space like this exists in Portland. And the smell. We have filled the courtyard with lilies and other lovely scented flowers.

Your Favorite Thing About Your Outdoor Space: By far, I am most proud of the blue framed trellis that I designed and built. Over the last couple of years I have managed to train Clematis over the diamond gridded wire only to suffer complete lost from Clematis wilt by the end of summer. I recently planted native Honeysuckle and am hopeful that it will serve me better. Regardless, I love the contrast of the daylilies against the blue. I imagine the Honeysuckle will provide the same once established.

Your Favorite Thing About Your Outdoor Space: The screen house is versatile for entertaining during the day and night, and it's bug free! Our guests often gravitate to this space during the summer months. We have two ceiling fans in the rafters to keep everyone cool. The string lights a just the right amount of light for socializing on warm evenings.

Your Favorite Thing About Your Outdoor Space: That it inspires me, and so much is re-used or just old. I love to craft, so a good portion of what is decorating the space is hand made. I have crochet blankets all around because I really like to be cozy. The "grass" rug in the front entry is also crocheted. As are the cactus, and the egg cups. I also love planting succulents, and will shove clippings into anything empty jars, eggshells, or seashells...
