There are some families that ban iPads, phones, email, and all things tech when taking the hallowed family vacation. I'm amazed by that. Maybe we'll try it sometime. But, though I don't want to spend our vacation tied to our devices, there are moments when I find having a little tech helps everyone recharge.

The one feature I really miss since switching from Android back to iOS (don't worry Android fans, I'll likely be switching back with the next update like the disloyal mobile user I am) is the superior, info-rich notification feature, Google Now. I've been able to retain some of the satisfaction by bringing Google Now to my desktop using a Chrome browser extension...

Fashion magazines create such a distinct look with their photo spreads: white backgrounds, with artfully arranged pieces that fit a particular theme, each one numbered clearly, with a key at the bottom describing the item, its provenance, and its cost. You know them when you see them, and they're much more attractive to look at than the endless cascade of rectangles that you might see on a fashion-themed Pinterest board.
