Spring is the season for breathing new life into the home. As soon as the sun gets a little brighter and the breeze a little sweeter, we're throwing open the windows and cheering up our abodes. First, we'll lighten up our decor, incorporating small accents in trendy blush and nude hues. Then we'll dust off our green thumbs with new houseplants, fresh flowers and a potted herb or two. Finally, after a good clutter clean-out (lookin' at you, junk drawer), we'll hit the corner of our homes most in need of fresh air: the closet.
After a long winter, it's finally time to welcome spring in deeper shades of pale—and LOFT wants to give one lucky Apartment Therapy reader a head start.
This week, I've been sharing the plan and menu for a casual weeknight dinner party I threw with our neighbors and their little kids. Today, we'll reveal how it all came together, how we kept it comfy and cheerful for the little kids while still making it a special night for us all. We hope it shows you, like it showed me, that dinner parties don't always have to be elaborately planned affairs, but can simply be a bigger, prettier version of your everyday family meal. Warning: you may be inspired to throw impromptu weeknight or weekend dinner parties all the time now, so grab your crayons and come on in!
When we began to brainstorm an original recipe to create for our No-Stress Neighborly Nosh Gathering, we knew we wanted a vegetable side dish that even a picky kid would love. A single link of Italian sausage (leftover from a previous pizza night) actually inspired the dish. It wasn't enough to create a main dish around, but it was just enough to add a little something extra when tossed in with a head of broccoli and a handful of pantry ingredients. A stretch of the imagination later, a flavorful veggie bake was born.
It's a dreary Wednesday, and my neighbor Molly is tired of being cooped up in her house with her two little girls. "Why don't you all come over tomorrow for a family dinner party?" I ask, almost without thinking about it. Everyone is excited, including my daughter, who likes being the 8-year-old babysitter-in-training, and we grown-ups are looking forward to a break in the routine.
But what to cook? And how to make this casual dinner party special while still keeping it fun and comfortable for the kids (and parents)? This week we'll be talking all about our easy family dinner party, and how you can throw one of your own. Today we'll start with the party plan!

It takes a killer eye to make a modern home shine: Too much midcentury or minimalism and your living room feels like a museum; not enough and the look just doesn't gel. That's why we love these readers' house tours—they each put their own spin on modern decor, and the results are contemporary houses that still feel like homes.
From flatscreens to top-of-the-line kitchen appliances, technological touches can make a great home even better, all while seamlessly fitting into the space's aesthetic. Case in point: our readers, who know a thing or two about incorporating high-tech elements without feeling like they're living in a spaceship. Here are a few of our favorite examples.
We love to talk about mattresses on Apartment Therapy. We spend so much of our lives in bed that we really can't overestimate how important it is. So now we really want to know about your mattress — what kind you have, whether you like it, and, um, what you do in it.
We teamed up with our friends at FurnitureToday, a weekly trade magazine for the furniture industry, to bring you this survey. The idea is that by understanding how you shop for and live with mattresses and beds, we can offer you better bed-related content, and the mattress industry readers of FurnitureToday can offer you better stores and mattresses! Survey respondents can also enter for the chance to win a $100 American Express gift card.
A good home office isn't just a place to put your laptop: It's a place where work gets done with style, where high-tech gadgets make everything work a little easier and look a little cooler. Here are a few home offices from House Tours and Tech Tours past that do just that.
