This is look is glamorous and feminine — but also crisp and modern, thanks to graphic shapes and bold color combos. And if you're decorating your first dorm room, or maybe your first apartment, it's also guaranteed to not break the bank.
While of course I'll be shopping for paint, hardware, etc. for my kitchen facelift, I figured I'd just include the pretty items here. While I'd love to purchase everything on my list, as usual it's not all in the budget, so I'll have to whittle it down to a reasonable amount. What would you choose?
As a rising freshman, I had just come back from a four week stint in Europe. I'd left my heart there, and did not particularly relish the months ahead in the snow belt. This room encapsulates the romantic spirit that might have helped to transport the young gamine in me.
What is it about those Scandinavians? Just when we think we've caught up, they manage to put some new twist on effortless cool. Inspired by their modern-but-not-too-minimal decor, we've put together a dorm room with clean lines, a simple color palette, and just enough texture to keep things interesting — a designy look at a less than designer price.
Here's a room with a little bit of everything: a little pattern, a little texture, a little old, a little new. It's a cheerful look, with a bit of a vintage feel, that will keep your dorm room happy, and your wallet, too.
All of my style sleuthing confirmed what I already know: I like basic white rooms. No matter what I do with furniture and decor, the space will always feel bright and clean (even if it's not). With that in mind, I decided not to paint the already white walls in the work room another color. Instead I am merely refreshing the floor. Four years of foot traffic, dog abuse and projects have left it in bad shape. In addition to scuff marks and dog hair, it's also yellowed underneath the one rug in there. Since I'm rearranging the room, the floor soooo needs to be redone. But the walls will remain white.
If the City of Los Angeles had a gift shop, I'm willing to bet you'd find these items depicting the sunny city there. So consider this your virtual LA gift shop: a bit of decor and accessories for residents or wannabes.
Mmmmm. California. I've been lucky enough to go twice this year and I still can't shake the laid back, modern feel that state has going on. They do it all so well, from pared-down desert minimalism to outdoor Redwood rustic to beachy casual. Get the look of the Golden State with these seven pieces from Etsy.
I'm working on my own workspace for this August's Style Cure, so I'm all about desks, task chairs and - of course - decor. Although my style couldn't be more different than this one, I love its shimmery, pretty quality. And I certainly wouldn't kick it out of bed if it showed up late one night with a bottle of champagne and chocolate. (Just kidding. I can be had for Project Runway reruns and a summer roll.)
