Day 19: Monday, January 28 Assignment: Catch up on whatever bits and pieces of your assignments still need a little more attention AND to take an "after" photo of your goal project
How are you holding up? The heavy lifting of the January Cure is behind us for the most part; we've got just a few days left to put the icing on the cake. Before we dive into the final handful of specific assignments, it feels like perfect timing to have a "catch up" day. I'm sure everyone has a task or two that they haven't quite wrapped up; take some time today to cross it off your list, or, at least, move it a little closer to the "finish line".
It's week three of the January Cure, and while last week I found myself losing steam, this week I have really started to see results and am getting motivated to see it through (as if having to share my progress with all of you wasn't motivation enough).
Cleanliness and peace. That's what I am looking for in a healthy, "cured" home. Peace is a goal for me. Which should have made Day 11 super easy, right? Just turn everything off. But no, I am sorry to say, it was really, really hard.
All the way back on Day 2 when we set up our Outboxes, I shared a cute little photo of mine. Well, that small box was full about 10 seconds into the first weekend. In reality, my whole formerly empty guest room turned into a towering pile of donations. But I finally got to clear it out! Here's what went to Goodwill:
Day 18: Friday, January 25...and the Weekend of January 26 & 27 Assignments: Weekly Flowers, Living Room Clean Up & Empty Your Outbox
Here we are at the last full weekend of the January Cure. You've been working hard since the start of the month and today is when the first rays of light at the end of the tunnel should begin to be visible. This time next week, you'll be done. This weekend's tasks have been chosen to help you get even more firmly on track for your end-of-Cure gathering celebration, so let's get going. Let's dive in and start wrapping this up!
I was going to very consciously bail on one of the January Cure tasks this week. Specifically, the one that asks to take a media fast. I rationalized that I just didn't have the time, but then Zippy, my dog, chewed through my computer power cord (for the second time). So my fated but begrudging fast started on Saturday night and continued through Monday mid-day. I know it was good for me, and I should do it again regularly, but I'm still struggling to make up for lost time and subsequently not planning another one soon. At least I was able to take the opportunity to hit the slopes with my family and our boards.
I've been a regular participant in the Apartment Therapy Cures ever since they were first instigated. I have regular home routines. I declutter my home on a regular basis. So I was surprised to discover what a difference some of the the second week's tasks made in my space. Especially considering I'd contemplated skipping some (okay, most) of them.
Some of my days were more productive than others this past week, and I definitely veered off task a few times, but overall I am feeling pretty good: as I look around my apartment, there is visual proof that I am making some progress.
