We like to think outside of the box, and when we came across this image of ornate ceiling medallions serving as wall art, we were instantly intrigued by the statement. More
I was at a color consulting job last week and before I could pull out my color samples, my client whipped out her own fan deck. The rod that typically holds the deck together broke a while ago so she replaced it with a piece of shoelace. I marveled at how much easier it was to work with a fan deck in this loose design. More
Kitchen cabinets. We're in the camp that says paint (especially if they're made of dark, unattractive wood). Painting instantly brightens up the cooking space--not to mention it's a fairly easy DIY. The hard part is deciding what color to paint them. More
Color Inspiration: This might not be a popular way to plan color, but I love themed rooms. Even if nobody else knows what the theme is, I still use it to guide my color and and accessory choices. For this dining room, the theme is 70s Garden Party. These colors made it possible for our family antiques, mid-century pieces, art from friends, and Oregon collection (in the built-in cabinet) to live together.
Color Inspiration: I've always been inspired by the saturated colors of Paul Gauguin and his Tahitian paintings. We wanted the alcove to be a surprise as you come around the corner, and Ian had used a similar color successfully in a previous apartment. The peacock blue was chosen for its vibrancy against the mango walls, and for its beautiful depth of color.
Color Inspiration: I wanted a modern take on a color palate reminiscent of mid-century and danish modern interiors. First I chose a color of blue and then built my palate around that.
Color Inspiration: My grandmother's house, which is a 1970 gem featuring exposed brick and wood, wall-to-wall caramel-colored carpet, orange Formica countertops, and bright custom wallpaper. The painting above the television is by Matte Stephens, whose work has inspired almost every color in my house.
Color Inspiration: The gloriously vibrant colors in the Chinese Art Deco rug. Actually, because the colors are so vibrant, I kept the walls white, but I used the rug to determine the paint colors in the rest of the apartment.
