One of the most obvious solutions for small or shared kids' bedrooms is to utilize vertical space with bunk or loft beds. What might not be obvious is how best to layout the space and configure the beds. A while ago I came across a German company, Billi-Bolli, that specializes in kids' beds in as many configurations as you can dream up: triple bunks, laterally staggered quadruple beds, crib/twin bed bunks, adjustable loft beds, "both up" beds and many more. Clearly, this is the jackpot of small space inspiration.
