Change is an important element of every designer's life. The nature of growth as an artist or designer is imbedded in the changes in our work, our home, our cultural surroundings, etc. It's so interesting to me to see the lifespan of a space as its owners live and grow in their own tastes, and I'm delighted to bring you a lovely example of a home that illustrates this organic change in design perfectly.

Name: Molly Turner
Location: Duboce Triangle, San Francisco, California
Size: 900 square feet
Years lived in: 7 months; Rented
When Molly Turner moved to San Francisco, she wanted a location that felt like a village, and had great public transit, with fantastic dining and shopping all within walking distance. It was easy for Molly to know what she wanted in a neighborhood since she's an urban planner.
Name: Kristy Socarras Bigelow, Mitchell, Giana & Leele (Brian, a.k.a. daddy, is missing from the photos on account of his refusal to have pictures taken)
Location: Bonnie Brae, Denver, Colorado
Size: 3,500 square feet, with finished basement
Years lived in: 1 year
The bulk of my visit with Kristy and her amazing family was spent in the entryway. Upon stepping inside, the Colorado sun seemed to collect in the fabulous yellow wallpaper and dance around the silver metallic ginkgo leaves. I halfway expected a tropical breeze when I finally set foot into the living room.

Name: Corey Lynn Calter, Designer for COREY by coreylynncalter
Location: Los Feliz, Los Angeles, California
Size: 3,500 square feet
Years lived in: 7 years
I get very excited when I have the opportunity to look inside the homes of fashion designers and Corey Lynn Calter is not just another designer. Her clothes are fun, eclectic, and statement-making, and her home is no different. It doesn't hurt that she married an artist, so you'll also find plenty of modern art in their home.
Name: Alina Gonzalez, Project Manager for FDA + Writer for Refinery 29 and her lifestyle blog The Hyperbalist, and Alex White, Internet Strategy Consultant
Location: Meridian Hill, Washington D.C.
Size: 815 square feet
Years lived in: 1 year, 4 months; Renting
It's not easy mixing industrial and geometric graphic prints with an affinity for livestock and pastoral themes. But Alina and her boyfriend Alex seamlessly merge their many influences (his, more coastal, hers, more bohemian) with their shared love for art, history, and travel and their appreciation for four-legged species.

Read on to find out more about how Emily created this lovely shared space.

Location: East Austin, Texas
Size: 1100 square feet
Years lived in: Rented almost 1 year
We first took note of Kate Payne's hypnotizing and down-to-earth brand of home style when we covered her cheery and colorful kitchen last year. One look at the warm and welcoming home she shares with her wife and it's obvious Kate loves the lost of art of homemaking (and luckily for everyone, she teaches those skills as an author and educator).
Name: Kris Fuchs
Location: Upper East Side, New York, New York
Size: 5,000 square feet
Years lived in: 8 years; Owned
When the elevator opens and you step into the Fuchs' family home, you are introduced to the space through a small room distinguished by dark walls, soothing light and such stylish details that it should prepare you for what is revealed when the sizable door is swung open, but a surprise is in store for you nonetheless.
Name: Stephen "Scuba" Clark
Location: Phoenix, Arizona
Size: 1,700 square feet
Years lived in: 5 years; Owned
Stephen 'Scuba' Clark bought his house five years ago, and in that five years, not a month has gone by that he hasn't managed to add significant and beautiful upgrades to his home. All of the projects are custom, designed by Scuba, and typically built by his roommate, Jeremy. Scuba's passion for life and travel is obvious in every corner of his home.
Name: Mike Reid, Designer
Location: Hackney, London
Size: 490 square feet
Years lived in: 5 years; Owned
When Mike Reid moved into his garden flat five years ago, the space was poorly proportioned, divided into a living room, a small kitchen with a hatch, a cramped bathroom and a very large bedroom. After living in the apartment for several years, he recently redesigned the layout to better suit his needs. The kitchen and the living room have been opened up, creating a light and spacious entertaining area, the bathroom has been transformed into a sleek shower room, and the bedroom now accommodates a walk-in wardrobe.
