My first love is interior design, but fashion is a close second.
Not that I consider myself the most fashionable person (most of my paycheck
goes toward home updates) but I appreciate good, smart design in general.
We all love our pets but we don't always love all of the things that come along with them. Often it feels like you are limited to the generic supplies at the big box pet store or to the opposite extreme, overpriced supplies at posh boutique pet shops. Enter Etsy, the handmade marketplace is filled with quirky, stylish finds that won't break the bank and look good enough to leave out.
Lace is a big decor trend for 2013, and children's rooms are no different. White lace looks clean and comfortable in any setting. It needn't be all about soft dreaminess. Paired with modern pieces, lace also works for a more vintage, eclectic space. Here's a round up of inspirational bedrooms, along with some available lace decor for you to get the look.
Do you ever feel nostalgia for something you never experienced? Perhaps in another life I grew up on a Swedish farm taking fika breaks with my mormor. Anyhow, I'm drawn to the homey style of Scandinavian folk and think it's particularly sweet in children's rooms.
Did you know 41% of tablet owners use their devices while watching TV? That was one of the staggering statistics I heard at a SXSW Interactive panel last month. A majority of those people are dividing their time between watching their show and interacting via Facebook or Twitter. They're tweeting, commenting, and talking live as the events unfold during broadcast, a notable change in how we're experiencing television series in the age of social networking...
That's right, the people who brought you the Necomimi brainwave controlled ears have a new project — and one that could lend itself to be slightly more useful. A short while ago at SXSW Interactive in Austin, Nuerowear showcased their prototype Mico headphones — audio gear that not only plays music, but also creates a playlist of songs based on your mood.
While strolling through the aisles of the SXSW Interactive convention center, something immediately caught my attention...literally stopping me in my tracks. A roaming bot on wheels, standing about 5 feet tall with an LCD monitor affixed to it, turned and followed me. A live person greeted me through the screen. This was Beam, and it may be the new way you work from home.
With the recent resurgence of a more
laid back, bohemian style, I am ready to step back from my usual palette of cool whites and
grays and embrace a warm, richly patterned look. I stumbled upon Kantha throws
when shopping for bedding for my new place and immediately developed a serious design crush.
I just can't seem to get enough snakeskin lately, which seems fitting since we just started the Year of the Snake in February. Like other animal prints, snakeskin works well as a neutral while still adding a bit of sophistication or pattern to a room.
Wood burning is one of those crafts you expect to see in the official Boy Scout manual of 1967. So it's great to see people still using this fun little technique to create beautiful home projects. Click through for some of our favorites:
