Tell us about your desk/home office: Since moving to the Portland metro area from San Francisco, I've needed to rely increasingly on the internet (and plane rides) to stay connected with a network of individuals (artists, colleagues and dear friends). I started blogging a year ago about all things art, so my home office is filled with books I reference often, and artwork (both from my collection and from my own studio, which is downstairs in the house). My office, while computer and printer laden, is truly a space for creativity and openness...
Favorite details? Something I think is unique about my space is that my strategy for decorating is as follows - spend as much money as you can on original artwork and books, the furniture is secondary.
I love supporting artists, so skimping on the furniture affords me this. Besides the built-in book shelf and cabinet and the custom made pedestal for the artwork, everything in the room is from IKEA. We have three small children too, so it makes sense to not break the bank on these items (may serve as their office furniture in the future, and mom can upgrade. Despite the humble IKEA bits, the original artwork and books feel right at home.
