The Maskros is a genius item - affordable, great looking, a true statement piece due to its impressive size and unique look. But beyond all that it seems that the world of design has taken it on as the ultimate "makeover" item. It's on its way to inclusion in the DIY hall of fame as the most re-imagined lamp of 2011!

Cathy of Picket Fence Design sent us in photos of her take on the Maskros makeover - an up to the minute design-wise take on adding a gradiated color - the pink is fresh and fun and definitely fashion forward. In fact, the color treatment on this project reminds me of the Blur sofa from Moroso that I spotted in Milan.
She has an excellent photo tutorial on how to get this look youreself - check it out: DIY Flower Chandelier | Picket Fence Design (Note: there is music on at Cathy's blog - adjust your sound as necessary)
Thanks, Cathy!

White Enamel Flatwa...
oh now that's excellent!
+1 !!!
Ah, turning the flower doodads inward makes this lamp SO much better.
very pink! very girlish!
yay! im liking before-and-afters again =)
Not a pink fan, but the concept is fun.
I think I'd feel the need to glue something sparkly at the centers of the "flowers"...
Yikes...I really don't like the before at all.
Nice rescue job!
That would be perfect for a kids room. VERY NICE!!!
@citygirlsf, the 'before" is the partially assembled frame without the normally white "dandelion fluff" ends. The "after" just paints them shades of pink and turns the curved dimension of the "flowers" inwards instead of the normal outwards configuration. It was never intended to stay as in the "before" photo, but it would be insane to competely assemble an IKEA lamp like this and then take it apart to paint. (To see the white regular version, see their website.)
agreed with not a pink fan but i assume it's for a young person's room. great idea turning it in!
I want one.
Those look like little pig noses, in pink. Pig-snout-flowers?
It's interesting.
Ohhhh...thanks, Sherry. It makes sense now!
I'm enjoying all the modifications we've been seeing with this lamp. I've yet to put mine together, but the idea of turning the frilly ends inward is fab.
Genius!
Can't get enough of this light! We admired it from afar for weeks and then finally decided to put it in our breakfast nook. It makes the most amazing shadows at night and all of our guests comment on how cool it is! Love when that happens!
