Celebrate Fair Trade Month:
20 Fair Trade Goods for Your Home

Did you know October is Fair Trade Month? I swear I must live under a rock, because I just learned about this a few days ago. According to Fair Trade USA it is indeed fair trade month. I may be a bit late to the party, but it's never too late to support companies that create beautiful goods using ethical practices. We're all familiar with rustic, handcrafted looking goods, but often these goods are anything but lovingly handmade. They're mass produced using incredibly cheap materials in sub-standard work facilities. Fair trade merchants offer the same types of handcrafted goods that many of us love, only these goods truly are handmade by artisans who are given fair payment for their labor.

Fair trade practices also support sustainability and many fair trade organizations promote education and empowerment of those living in developing countries. In a social climate that tends to focus on all that is wrong in the world, it's exciting to know that by doing something as simple as purchasing fair trade items, we can support those who are working for positive change. One of the inspiring aspects of shopping fair trade is taking some time to learn about the stories of the artisans and read the mission statements of the companies working in this way.
