The month of November is special in America, but it is also an important time of the year in other cultures as well, whether it be the Day of the Dead
, or Shichi-Go-San.
Shichi-Go-San (meaning "7,5,3") is celebrated on November 15th in Japan. According to Wikipedia
, it is "to celebrate the growth and well-being of young children". It is traditionally observed for 3 and 7 year old girls and 5 year old boys (though some families include 3 year old boys as well) who are dressed up (in kimono) and taken to a shrine. The reward for being dressed and photographed on that day is a long red and white stick candy ("chitose ame") baring health and growth symbols.
