Here is a look at our modern open plan artists loft in Venice. Started out as a 1 bedroom loft w/ vinyl flooring, we added two bedrooms, stained oak floors and a lot of art.
My favorite part of this loft are the walls, so each one we did quite differently, starting with the mural (Isis), then the Matthew Williamson wallpaper we found in London, and finally my husbands' Che Guevera photography collection. I am also obsessed with natural wood, so we kept the beams, the second loft, the stairs and the shelving au naturel.
Thanks, Celeste!

Wow, I'm usually not a fan of lofts but this is just so nice. Great job!
Love the wood box shelving - can you tell us anything about it?
The comic strip eye mural is awesome!
So, usually I'm not the person to do this, but the phrase is "au naturel" and is French for "in the nude."
I am going to hold my breath til we get a FULL tour on this one!
Beautiful!!! Love this :)
why isnt this a full tour?
Where did you get the kitchen table/island and chairs?
This needs to be a full blown tour!
I like the red kitchen cabinets and the pop art pieces but two egg chairs side by side is over the top.
Another full tour vote.
The comic strip prints are by Roy Lichtenstein, I believe.
I second the question about details on the wood box shelving!
I would love to see all of this place, and have a full explanation behind it all, looks super cool.
Hi Everyone - Full House tour coming Oct. 18th, thank you so much for the lovely comments!
Box shelving - we needed to build a wall here for our son's room, so rather than drywall we wanted something unique that would act as an entryway/separation/piece of art - and we saw a lot of these freeform types of shelving units in Denmark (key inspiration) - so we asked our contractor to give us a custom designed set of bookshelves using white birch in the freeform box style. Quite easy/fun to do and inexpensive.
The Island - gosh, we actually made this using various Ikea bits and pieces, a wooden island that we stained, added wheels, then took the top off a dining table and attached it to the top of the island so we had a nice overhang - the bar stools are from London but I'm sure you can get them anywhere. The end chairs are leather and the side chairs are wood.
This has it all - color, art, class, quirkyness, originality, functionality....LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!!
I really believe that in the future most people will prefer to live without many walls--and this is really lovely. Love the center of you home the bright red kitchen. Great job on the walls--not just a rectangle--a home that suits life.
Have you ever noticed that the really creative homes are in California?
Such a relief from "mid-century blah, blah, blah!" Very creative.
Open and lovely! I especially like the wallpapered area under the stairs - makes it seem cosy and sectioned-off while still being open to the rest of the loft.
