CES 2009: Sharp AQUOS BD Series To Integrate Blu-ray Players

Did someone say consolidation? Oh yes, and it's a mighty fine thing we must say. Sharp's new BD series, a branch from their high-end AQUOS lineup, features a completely built-in side-loading Blu-ray player (man, that's a lot of dashes), saving you money (kind of) and space (for sure) in your home theater setup. Sure, you could argue that the bulge looks absolutely horrendous from the side, but hey, who's to argue with anything that's a two-in-one device?

The new BD series is set to come in sizes ranging from 32-52-inches and is set to be released within the next few months. The exact release dates are unknown, though their pricing looks somewhat reasonable if you consider a standard Blu-ray player runs about $200-$250 these days.

  • LC-52BD80U will be available in February; pricing is $2599
  • LC-46BD80U will be available in February; pricing is $2299
  • LC-42BD80U will be available in January; pricing is $1899
  • LC-37BD60U will be available in January; pricing is $1299
  • LC-32BD60U will be available in January; pricing is $1099

As far as specifications go, you'll be getting 120Hz rate conversion, a 10-bit panel of deep color reproduction, and 176 degree viewing angles. All pretty standard, high-quality stuff as expected from their AQUOS line.
