Chad & Frank's West Chelsea Warehouse Home

House Call

Name: Chad and Frank (and Hoffman, Beagle Mix)
Location: West Chelsea - Manhattan, NY

When two people take a leap in their relationship and move in together, especially into a small Manhattan apartment, often times the décor ultimately becomes a mish mash of styles or one nester compromises and takes a backseat in the decorating process. But for two opinionated physicians with divergent tastes, shacking up meant finding a happy middle ground that maintained one's modern glam shine while infusing comfort and durability for the other.

Four years ago, Chad purchased a 900 square foot loft in a refurbished warehouse in the West Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan, "I'm pretty sure on the day the real estate market hit it's peaked," he laments. At the time, he was an avid collector of futuristic and space age "furniture," acquired more for admiring than for lounging - think concrete chairs, molded plastic benches and sculpted chrome tables. He meticulously positioned his carefully-curated collection of Jetsons-inspired finds into a personal gallery and set upon finding the elusive item to complete the white space - a boyfriend.

A year later and after several months of dating, he and Frank took the plunge and decided to give cohabitation a go. But after a year of uncomfortable seating options and tiptoeing around too many untouchable and off-limit items, a change had to be made. Add an adopted puppy with energy to spare, and the minimalist sanctuary needed to transform into a comfortable and livable home for a growing family.
