Sprout Side Table
Let us not forget CB2's orange bean bag chairs that looked like a life boat. CB2 appears to have erased the evidence because I can't find them on the site but here's a link to the monstrosity:

I'm not sure they will ever be "chic" -- but I think there will always be a place for them. I rather like the handsome set in the first pic, and the aged-leather one (last photo) seems quite inviting!
When we were kids, we had a set of vinyl bean bag chairs in our "family room" for watching TV. Indeed, there were lots of 8-track players in the neighborhood -- fortunately my parents stuck with their Zenith flip-down record player!!!
I'm partial to that Marimekko one....
I like the first pic, but the others not so much. This is definitely one furniture item I can live without.
I can't say I've ever seen one that didn't look sloppy to me, but I hate most slipcovered furniture for the same reason (including the couch my husband loves--gah). There is simply no way to make them look tidy.
I agree with Shandygirl. They're sloppy, and as I recall, hardly comfortable. I'm ok with this one dying off in the near future please.
I love this one from woodnotes: http://www.woodnotes.fi/fi/product_range/furniture/lounge_chair/
It's pretty expensive, so I made my own version out of natural linen fabric. We love it.
After you leave a dorm room, there's really no need for these anymore.
If I was going to spend $300-600 on a place to sit, it would be on a couch.
My kids want bean bags for Christmas to lounge in their rooms and watch movies, but they are 7 and 3 years old. I cannot imagine a day when I'd want one for our living area, no matter how classed up they look.
Nor could I imagine spending $800+ on one!
i tend to agree with rocketscientist... but they could be good for kids, i guess... maybe in a reading nook or something. better than the floor!
I vote O-SHB. Not comfy, hard to get in and out of and just messy. The only place for them is kids rooms.
I love the felted rocks!
I am totally facing this challenge with my papasan chair! LOVE it or LOATHE it... it's comfortable, but just not attractive...
I'd like one in my game room - you know, my theoretical future game room, where I can laze about and play video games in comfort.
I don't think I'd ever call this chic, but I can't imagine they aren't comfortable and functional for some homes. I think of game rooms or kids' rooms first, but also man caves. Or even one in sunny corner or a room for reading. To me, they just take up so much space for what you get in return.
the rocks are still my fav.
I liked and had them as a teen, and haven't missed them since. They take a lot of space to seat just one person. Besides, the filling is hazardous if tears or leaks allow a child or pet to inhale the pellets.
The Verzelloni one in the first picture is pretty grown up and much more like a chaise than a beanbag. Wouldn't mind a couple of these to complement our Fritz Hansen sofa.
I personally love bean bags. I have a "bean bag" from www.cordaroys.com that replaced my bunk bed in high school. I think it's the one they call the king size. It's actually broken up pieces of foam inside, so to me it's more comfy than a true "bean" bag. I guess I'm crazy enough to call it the most comfortable bed I've ever had (that's not to say that my husband and I's queen size mattress isn't comfortable.) We're buying a house this month and it will definitely have a place in what will be our office. Can't imagine our house without it! ^_^
I had the most unforgettable southern porch swing bean bag mattress made with shipping popcorn that travelled well for outings but got ruined by the God damn squirels and other critters. It could be repaired and would be perfect for a tiny apartment without squirels. Thanks for the bean bag furniture subject. It's the "bend and snap" of furniture chat and decorating.
I like the ones that look like boulders. Reminds me of those art installations of gigantea - giant pencil erasers and pencils, a 10-foot-high screwdriver, a yard-long eggbeater, whatever.
