Q: I recently purchased the gorgeous Ikea Kramfors Frasig (leather) sofa combination w/ chaise in dark brown. Unfortunately there is no matching Kramfors armchair, and I really need either a single decent-sized armchair or perhaps two fairly small ones side-by-side to provide additional seating and make the space better for conversation.

I’m looking for both general advice on mismatched living room furniture (for example, I believe I’ve heard that mismatched pieces should not match in any of: material/texture, color, or overall shape in order to work) and specific piece recommendations for my particular situation. In general the style should be very modern/contemporary and minimalist (think expensive BoConcept catalog spreads emulated using select pieces from Ikea/on an Ikea budget).
Editor: David- that looks like the perfect couch to curl into on a cold rainy day like today. You might take a look at the Arild or the Skruvsta as accent chairs. Do any readers have recommendations for the perfect chairs to complement David's new sofa?

"that looks like the perfect couch to curl into on a cold rainy day like today."
Actually, sofas covered in Bycast Leather are about the worst places to sit on a cold and/or rainy day - or pretty much any day. It's like sitting on cold vinyl, which is essentially what Bycast Leather is: Ground up pieces of leather held together by vinyl polymers.
I recommend at least getting the cloth covered version - it will cost less, feel more comfortable and the slipcovers come off for cleaning.
I don't think any leather is comfortable for curling up on--it's cold and slippery, or sweaty and sticky. So why not get a plush upholstered chair in a fabric with a lot of texture? Without seeing the rest of your space and furniture it's hard to recommend a style. I'd just focus on adding contrast and warmth. And while you're at it, pick up a couple of nice throws for the couch. You might need them!
bepsf, bycast leather isn't quite the same as bonded leather, which you're describing. Bycast is split leather that's been resurfaced (the Ikea description is "Dyed through, split leather with an embossed and pigmented surface, 100% polyurethane"). It's a lot closer to real leather than bonded leather is.
I have that exact couch - and though I loved it at first, I'm now getting rid of it. After about 8 months it started to "melt" and crack from being exposed to a sunny window. It turns out that it's manufactured leather (bycast) which is pretty much held together by spraying it with numerous coats of polyurethane. IKEA does not have a warranty for the Leather(like) couch either. If anyone is thinking of getting this couch, I recommend going with the fabric...at least IKEA will cover it if something goes wrong.
Leather or Fabric, they both have their pros and cons. I used to have a fabric sofa, and happily replaced it with leather.
I have a similar styled chocolate brown leather sofa and I love it.....curl up on it every night. In the Summer the air conditioning is on, so no sticking or sweating. In the winter, it is only cold when you first sit. A simply throw can alleviate that easily. I find the leather looks and wears better. As for the bycast leather, I have to agree with bepsf. Spend a few extra dollars and get real leather....it makes a world of difference.
As for chairs, any of the chairs at Ikea would go...depends on your other furnishings and your taste.
I like the Karlstad Swivel chair with it, or even the Stokholm Easy Chair (the solid colors)....but it should be decided by what you like and what is comfortable. I would definitely go with fabric on the chairs.
Whatever you do, avoid getting side chairs that are very similar in style to the sofa, i.e. slick leather cubes. It's boring. I'd get something with fabric upholstery and a leggy or curvy design...and perhaps not at IKEA, if you can help it.
This person asked for advice on what to pair with this couch but instead got a handful of responses telling him how terrible his already purchased couch is. Nice work, guys.
David, I think the "rules" you've laid out work. If it were me, I would pick up (a) chair(s) that are definitely not matching in color or fabric/texture, and probably shape as well (though not necessarily on that last one). Reason being: it could be tough to find an exact fabric/color match, which will result in a frumpy, slightly "off" look. Of course, rules were made to be broken, so if something strikes you - go for it.
One thing to try might be to get a patterned chair that has some brown in it that would match with the sofa. If patterns aren't your thing, look to some of the other furniture in the room and see if there's a color you'd like to bring out more. I would tie it together with either pillows that match or throws that mix and match on sofa and chair.
For what it's worth, I think your sectional's super classy. Perhaps the addition of a fleece or suede blanket will cozy it up for a bit, and THEN, who knows, MAYBE it will even be up to everyone's standards to curl on when it's a cold rainy day.
we had a kramfors sofa and really loved the look of it. while maybe not as comfortable as others, it was great for stretching out and sleeping! to fight off the chill of the leather i kept two oversized down throws at the side of it. we purchased a leather club chair from door store that was just about the exact same brown leather. i just did a quick look on their site and could not find it but it might be worth looking into. enjoy our new sofa!
I'd look for chairs that are colorful, textured or patterned, and not too boxy or ornate. Here's one option, very affordable.

I have two ikea couches made of the same material, and I love them! I picked them up for insanely cheap, and while they have their pros and cons, try as they may, my 2 and 3 yr old boys cannot destroy them. I keep throws on them too which helps.
I agree with the others--a pair of colorful chairs would look great. I have this "Oasis" armless chair from Target: http://www.target.com/Floral-Upholstered-Chair-Oasis/dp/B000U0ISWM
...or if you wanted to go more modern, I also have the Ikea Lunna chairs (very comfy) with some fun throw pillows: http://www.kaboodle.com/reviews/lunna-1 I see them on CL all the time.
IKEA itself lists the Tirup swivel chairs together with the Kramfors range. I like the shape, but they are offered in 5 colours only, so it would depend on your colour scheme if they fit. (They do come in either leather or fabric cover.)

@prue: I had not seen that Tirup swivel chair yet. I think that the Kavat Lilac deep purple would look great with David's chocolate brown couch! And I like the idea of something curvy to contrast with the boxy shape of the couch.
I'd go with fabric and something either in a narrower track arm or perhaps even armless.
When I had this sofa (I had to sell it though bc it was not comfortable enough for me)... I used these chairs with it.
