We spotted this clever idea in the February/March issue of Readymade. The project was submitted by an Italian DIY reader and here's what she used to make it...
Sol Kawage made the chalkboard wine rack from "off-the-shelf drainage pipes enclosed in a fiberboard case, coated with chalkboard paint". We think this a great idea and you don't even have to be a wine drinker — you could store seltzer water or soda or other beverages as well (perhaps you'd need a different size diameter drainage pipe for these types of drinks.)

Large copper pipes would look great in this as well... although I am not sure you would be able to get the right diameter pipe easily...
I love this. You could also utilize a few of the pipes in the middle as mail organizers for each person in the house.

black pvc is basically the only option, but I think it looks best anyway to blend with the chalkboard and not stand out.
it is a bit amusing that purpose of that pipe is a plumbing stack. It goes from containing raw sewage to the storing the "nectar of the gods".
That's so cute! My toddler would be too tempted to pull the wine bottles on the lower shelves out, though.

Hi all, thanks for your comments. My toddler tried once to pull out a bottle from the bottom and I told him not to and he has never tried again since. Also, we don't drink much wine anymore because I'm pregnant and my hubby has an ulcer, so it's basically full of soda bottles and some liqueur bottles for guests. They mostly fit in, excepting the weird ones like Amaretto di Saronno ones.
So, so, so cool. It'd be great in a kid's room for small toys.
