Chandeliers can add a touch of class and sparkle to any room. And who wouldn't like a bit of elegance in the water closet? Actually, chandeliers fit with any style from modern mansions to industrial lofts.

I love the idea. I once saw a Sarah Richardson design show where she wanted to hang a chandelier above a tub, but was unable to due to safety issues. It was illegal in Ontario, though I don't know anything about the legality of it anywhere else in the world. I think most contractors or electricians would probably do it anyhow....
illegal in Ontario...thas odd...Candice Olson does it all the time...
Although I can see why it would be...its kinda a death wish...especially if it isnt secured...
I miss mine. (it was not over the bath) But, we no longer have the 10" ceiling. ~:o(
Don't about illegality of it but I"d not put it OVER the bath, but in the center of a room, sure, and you need to ensure it's properly secured to the celiing, and that means the fixture box needs to be mounted securily to the stud and the fixture securily screwed into the mounting bracket inside the box, and you have to ensure all is grounded and I think there may be versions of these chandaliers that are designed for moist environments to begin with.
These are not my style at all, but I can see a more modern fixture in my bath if the opportunity arrises, but I'd probably go with pendants, recessed cans instead.
When this trend first appeared, it was meant to be humorous and over the top. But now people take it seriously, which means the bathroom chandelier has lost its context. And that can only mean trouble.
This is one of those trends that will be a specific date marker: in ten or twenty years time you'll still be able to tell when the bathroom was decorated, give or take a year, by the chandelier.
It might as well be a squiggly line of neon from the mid 80's.
NO CHANDELIERS IN THE BATHROOM EVER!!! ESPECIALLY ELECTRIC!! Maybe I'm still in shock from people thought that Designing Women was a great show but the 11th commandment says: Thou shalt NOT hang a chandelier in thoust bathroom. Check the tablets its there at the bottom in fine print!
Really though some Gaudi or ostentatious contraption threating you from the ceiling??? The bath should be a place of calm and reflection not a debate about bad interior design decisions.....
Sorry just had to get that out the 80's ID really hurt.
Many chandeliers can be over the top, that's a chandelier for ya. But I think some can look pretty cute in any room. Whoever first thought of it could have had some humorous intention, but it started something fun that looks cute to many people. Sometimes it's hard to separate our own taste from reality.
I had one in my office's spacious toilet. Visitors always were surprised. But when I wanted to add some artificial cobweb to it my office partner went on strike ;-)
Holy cow, some of those bathrooms are bigger than my living room/kitchen combined room...
