Name: Chandler Ellis (newborn)
Location: Brownwood, Texas
This room used to be orange. Bright orange. Anyone who has been to our home knows that I LOVE color. Bright, bold, paint colors. But when we found out we were expecting, I decided to go in the opposite direction. I wanted a clean white slate.
I chose Behr Ultra Pure White paint for the walls and decided it would be fun to incorporate lots of bright colors with decor. The alphabet wall was a craft project that started out small and ended up being a main focal point for her nursery. I made each letter of the alphabet using a paper mache method and decorated them with various bright papers, fabrics, textures, and paint. The crib was gifted to us by a family friend, so my husband and I decided it would be okay to splurge a bit on the comfy La-Z-Boy Claiborne swivel-glider chair.
My husband is a wood worker and craftsman. He made her changing table from oak wood and stained it to match the crib. I knew I wanted to incorporate large spots of color with the baskets from Land of Nod. The baskets also serve as great storage for diapers, bath accessories, and other various items.
The closet originally had an accordion folding door, but I decided to take down the accordion door and cover it with a curtain panel instead. Again, for more color. On the same wall as her closet is actually a door that goes to the porch. I wanted to make it look more like a window, so I made another curtain panel to cover it.
Chandler's nursery turned out very bright and colorful — even with white paint on the walls! It is a very cheerful room that I hope she loves.
