We've been searching for the perfect seating solution for our outdoor area. Because the ground is a tad on the uneven side, the chairs that we do have are a little to unstable for our liking. Then it hit us like a ton of bricks--a picnic table is way to go. Our top finds after the jump!

Ask This Old House has good instructions on building your own. It will cost as much as the home depot one time, but you get a much larger table if you go the DIY route.

You missed my favorite! The 2x4 flip bench/picnic table. It's a bench but the bench back flips down to become 1/2 of the picnic table! Amazon has the components for $40. The best part is, since you choose the wood length yourself, it's a custom fit for wherever you want it to go! We wanted these for our wedding, but didn't get them. Maybe this summer...

If you are making picnic tables for a community, please remember the disabled or injured... The standard trestle picnic tables don't allow for someone to park a chair or wheelchair at the ends. You need a space 17- 19" deep, clear of impediments. It won't accommodate all disabled, but it will make your table more welcoming. Plus - someone can sit at the head of the table now!
