Ok, this is a cheap post. You ripped this right out of the latest issue of Domino!!! Though you get some credit for pointing out other options.

I'm totally ordering this. Sorry Saarinen, it's a great design, but I'd never pay that much money for a freaking side table.

The Saarinen has such an elegant base. The knock-off looks clunky next to it. That said, the Target table is pretty great for the price.

I think that urban outfitters has a similar table for a great price as well

I've been looking for a reason to buy this table for months now but it still hasn't materialized. It was introduced in the summer with the College line. I don't know if they mention it on the site but this table is metal and pretty lightweight. Doesn't make a difference to me but it might for some. I think it's definitely worth it!

It screams "Cheap Chinese Import"

This table looks much cheaper in person. I picked it up, debated and then put it back.

if youre not buying in person i wouldnt buy it at all. its metal and easily dents.. or so it seems, because i have yet to see one without some sort of imperfection.

I believe I saw this in the store. If I'm remembering the same table, it is very unstable.

I am not one to scream about the sanctity and purity of the original design, but the Trumpet is U-G-L-Y. It is graceless and putting it beside the Saarinen Side Table reinforces how much better designed the original is.

I'm a knock-off champ, but save your dollars for things that actually look good.

When I first spotted this at the local Target I literally ran to from a few aisles over. Up close, I was so disappointed. It looks super cheap and all the ones at the local stores were dented. It wasn't even worth it once these went on clearance.

It's not that difficult to make a decent looking knockoff. Target version = Fail

Pier One had a much better copy of the tulip side table. Though it only came in dark brown with a stamped patterned top (you could spray paint it white), they are metal, much more substantial, and come in 2 sizes. For $99 or $129 (though they are probably on clearance for less now that summer is over) you could have much better quality.

Or you could be lucky like me and get an original 1960's Burke copy for $25. :)

the urban outfitters tables are fun, but no swooshie at all... this target one has something, like a 50's blonde who may not be Marilyn but is hot as hell anyway "quoting" her

I haven't purchased this table, but I did consider it when they first came out. I took a look at them at a local store and decided that $25 was too much for what you get in this case (IMO, $25 could yield a better quality table albeit in a different style from craigslist). I generally don't mind knock-offs as long as they are reasonably well-made or provide a bit of creativity in interpretation of the original, but IMO this version lacks either quality. I would still consider getting one for my office if it was greatly discounted, though. This is an item I suggest that you see in person before making a buying decision. IMO, in person, the lines and proportions of this table are simply not pleasing.

I have two of them that work as my bedside tables. They have been very stable so far, piled high with book, various other bedside needs, and even a table lamp. And the small size is great because I was having a hellaof time finding any bedside table between 12-16" for my small bedroom. Love a round shape for a bedside table too.

The originals are beautiful though and maybe someday when I have $1000 to spend on bedside tables, I will buy them....sigh.

I don't like the shape- it's lacking something. I would save for the original (I saw five of 'em in Palm Springs last weekend, all a bit under $400 after some haggling). Now for the Saarinen dining table, I would (and did) go IKEA Docksta all the way rather than splashing out $1500.

I have this table (got it on clearance after the summer stuff was moved out) and it's not the most stable thing in the world. I use it to hold small things in my office and it works fine. The others at the store were dented, but I like it, especially since I can't afford anything else.

i'd love to have the real thing - - but the target version is working for me, for now. i have it sitting next to my (real) eames RAR that is also white and they look so pretty together. mine mostly gets used as a landing spot for my laptop...have had no issues with "instability."

i got the target table in black with the printed top. i think its an ok piece, but it does scratch easy and if you put things on top of it-you need to distribute the weight evenly or else it can get a bit lopsided.

but my husband and i like it and it makes the little extra space right next to our front door more usuable and pretty. its only $25 and worth it if you can find one in perfect shape and you are willing to be careful with it.

no doubt the expensive original is sturdier and prettier tho! but how many of us can afford it?

I have it. I know it's not as pretty as the original, but I still like it, and since I most definitely don't make enough to buy the original, it works for me. I know it dents easily, but for $25, it's not like I was planning on having it forever anyway. It looks great in my living room. I, too, have had no problems with instability, but I'm pretty careful where I put things on top of it (like, I don't put heavy things on it at all, really, and I don't put stuff by the edges, just in case).

Dents- get a glass top for 6 bucks in Target and NO more dents... Stability? If base is hollow or can be hollowed. puor in quickcrete concrete and it will be heavy as hell!!!

might look vaguely decent in a photo but its total crap in real life. There are plenty of GOOD, inexpensive side tables out there that aren't knockoffs.
