In my house we brew single cup coffee with a ceramic drip pour, but this is the next step for us. The handblown Chemex coffeemaker is made with wood, laboratory-grade borosilicate glass and a thin leather band. I've heard it makes the perfect cup of coffee with no bitter aftertaste, sediment, or contact with plastic — all without electricity or moving parts!
Available in 3 cup, 6 cup, and 8 cup.

Neat, but you'd still be buying paper filters, and throwing them out. I prefer my french press. No electricity, moving parts, or paper filters, and less expensive than this hand-blown beauty. This one is beautiful, though. Very.
Filters and grounds can be composted. You can find these wonderful coffeemakers on ebay because they've made these for a long time.
still need to use resources to make the filters though :P
These are great coffee makers, my husband and I received one of these as a wedding present and enjoy it a lot.
I just broke my most recent chemex and ordered a new one off of ebay. I have been contemplating this permanent Coava Kone filter - http://www.clivecoffee.com/product/brand_coava/coava_kone.html?gdftrk=gdfV21649_a_7c89_a_7c425_a_7ccoava_kone
I was just about to mention the
Coava Kone
as hydroplanes mentioned above http://coava.myshopify.com/collections/frontpage/products/kone
hario makes a flannel filter that is reusable, i'd be curious to see if there is someething similar for the chemex
I also don't know where those prices for the chemex came from, I believe they go for $30-$40
