Buckhead — Atlanta, Georgia
My condominium complex was originally built as apartments in 1952 and converted into owner-occupied condos in the early 70s. My 2 bedroom condo has about 1,100 square feet. It's located in a wonderful Atlanta neighborhood and is surprisingly affordable for the area. Unfortunately, the units lack the interesting features usually associated with older houses and have small bathrooms and tiny kitchens.
Not having the budget for decorating and renovating (and loving all things vintage), I chose to live with my 70s kitchen with its Formica countertop and backsplash, drop-tile ceiling and insufficient cabinet space and instead to buy the few things needed to make my home more comfortable. Until my daughter went off to college this past fall, she and I shared a 5 x 8 bathroom, also not updated since the 70s! Since then, I've traded bedrooms with her and moved into the spacious master bedroom, splurged on a bed I fell in love with and decorated using vintage pieces I've had forever. In the process I've also repainted in cheerful colors. If you surround yourself with things you love, any space can be comfortable and make you happy.
