As much as we're not into gimmicky meal time goods for children, we can't help but love this small interchangeable set containing the 3 essential pieces. This screwdriver fork, spoon and knife set is as cute as it is quirky and although it's reminiscent of Bob the Builder, we're sort of ok with that.
Sure they're a novelty item, but once in awhile they can be a super fun find that will keep your kids entertained and possibly even cleaning their plate before asking to be excused from the dinner table. You can find this set from Fred for $11.99 a little later this month over at Perpetual Kid.

If you're feeling a little more themed, you can also check out these construction machine food scoops ($17.49), which could be crossing the line, but fun none the less — assuming you can handle the noises that your children are bound to make when using them.
Are you into a little fun, or would you rather your kids use adult utensils from the get go?

The chewdriver has one serious flaw: you need both a fork and a knife at the same time to cut food. With only 1 handle, the kid will be trying to cut food with a knife only.
Oy. The judgmental tone in your posts is too much, editors. Who cares if anyone uses gimmicky utensils if that's what it takes to get kids to eat or try new foods? "Crossing the line"? It's not some great moral affront here.
stickyricemama - I personally love the idea of gimmicky things, but more often than not, we get the run down from other readers who don't share our joy in things that clutter up their kitchen drawers. As far as we're concerned if it's a dump truck that makes the meatloaf go down, then gentlemen... start your engines!
This is a fabulously fun idea! I would even eat with this.
True, having only one handle when you need both a knife and fork would suck, but I'm sure a keen little boy would find a way around it. I don't quite know what you mean by 'crossing the line' when it comes to the scoops - if you're gonna eat with a ChewDriver you may as well serve with a dump truck ;)
