Liz is considering a makeover for her desk: "I have a computer desk like the one above (the only difference is that my desk has silver colored metal instead of black). It's not a great piece, but I thought it might look nicer with a few updates. I want to paint the metal an antique gold to match the chair that I am currently using with it.
Would this be completely horrible? I can't find any good pictures of blond wood furniture with gold accents and I'm wondering if this might be a weird color combination. Thanks!! Liz"
Liz, if you think the gold would work better with your desk chair and surrounding room, we'd say that there is no reason to not give it a try. BUT you want the gold finish to come out really well since the metal area is a big (and very visible) part of the desk and that is not always an easy project when working with metal. Here are two posts that discuss related projects: How to Restore Metal Chairs and Can I Paint These Chairs? - they may be worth a look.
Can anyone give Liz any tips for a paint job like this? What are your thoughts on the switch to gold? Let Liz know in the comments...
