(Hello again to Julie, trying out from Minneapolis for a spot on the AT: Chicago team. Enjoy the house tour she put together - comments are welcome!) Name: David & Kirki Location: Minneapolis Size: 2300 sq. ft. Lived In: 5 years >> Enter Slideshow >> See All Thumbnails What’s the age of your décor? Mine clings to 29. But this 2 parents/kids/cats household lives like grownups and still remembers who they were in the day. Friends hang as easily as kid art. Mementoes represent sans kitsch. Sure, there’s the influence of recent good tastemakers. But having shot more crannies than slideshows allow, we can say there’s more David, Kirki & co. than the ghost of Martha past. Lesson: never take yourself or your kitchen table too seriously. And ditch that old college print in the spare room. >> Enter Slideshow Style – Martha & pre-flea markup shopping with edgy at the edges Inspiration—The great Upper Midwest palette of birch, water, stone & bark Fave Element—She (the Aries) cites the Wearstleresque ram; he’s partial to the No Future poster salvaged when local record shop/institution Northern Sun folded years ago Biggest Challenge—credit is due for integrating their girls’ lives and art without getting Gymboreed What Friends Say—“Oh, is it that late already?” Guests nest on winter nights in and summers al Coke machine/beer-fridge Biggest Embarrassment—compulsive tidiness Proudest DIY—palette connects rooms without defaulting to white Best Advice—“Don’t do everything at once.” Just Got—Ram, at TJ Maxx & More Dream Source—landscaping beyond Zone-4-by-numbers plants >> Enter Slideshow Resources: Resources (more available via comments, we got ‘em all) Art Todd Norsten paintings Hatch Show prints Family photos & creations Living Room Couches – Retrospect, Room & Board outlet Custom Coffeetable – Willie Willette Alabaster Candles – Heinrich & Schultz, a hidden gem Paint – Half Moon Crest-Benjamin Moore Office Chair – David’s childhood Pillows – Room & Board Dining Table – Retrospect Chair – West Elm Inner molding paint – Sabre Gray-Benjamin Moore Ext. molding – Cos Cob Stonewall-Benjamin Moore Birds: Hunt & Gather – Anthropologie Quartz – Colibri Kitchen Table & Chairs – Elements Slipcovers for chairs –Crate and Barrel Cement counter; waterworks backsplash Sign, Boxes, Glass, Big Bird – flea markets past >> Enter Slideshow Thanks, David & Kirki! -Julie
