The The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation has awarded 22 Genius Grants for 2011 and one of them went to Chicago architect, Jeanne Gang. The 47-year-old Illinois native will receive a $500,000 no-strings-attached grant over the course of five years:

Gang was awarded named a MacArthur Fellow for "integrating conventional materials, bold yet functional designs, and ecologically friendly technology in a wide range of striking structures". Indeed, her work incorporates materials we are all used to seeing in unexpected - even mesmerizing - fashion. In honor of Gang's great achievement, we've shown a small gallery of her work up top. See much more of this MacArthur Genius' work at Studio Gang.
