Made in Chicago. Although urban beekeeping might not be on everyone's radar, it's a growing trend according to Conscious Choice. Proof in point: the Chicago neighborhood of North Lawndale is home to the Chicago Honey Co-op's 100-plus hives.
The co-op has a few things going for it: it's locally made in chemical-free hives, they hire and train under-employed Chicagoans, and they also create beeswax candles, sugar scrubs and lip balms.

awesome. I've always gotten my local Chicago honey from Growing Home, which ALSo employs previously-homeless people. I know they're at the green market, too.
Sounds like there are several of these programs in the area! I bought a small jar of Beeline honey at Whole Foods (the understated, simple packaging drew me in). It is a similar program to what rsilverman refers to, this one is through the North Lawndale Employment Network.
I like the concept and will keep purchasing honey from these programs. Although, I find the taste of this particular bottle to be a little flavorless. Almost like a flavored simple syrup. Maybe it's just this batch? Could the flavor vary from season to season, like wine?
I am really interested in some of the other products, like the beeline body cream! http://www.beelinestore.com/
I bought a jar of this honey at the begining of the summer at Green City market, and I really love it. I find it to be quite flavorful. Earlier this week, I used it in a Moroccan carrot recipe, and it was perfect.
cptmoll - are you willing to share your knock-out recipe? Sounds delicious.
YES! I love this honey!
It is quite scrumptious...besides being organic, the organization helps create local jobs/profits are for charitable causes, eating local honey helps reduce allergies.
Local honey exposes you to local allergens and pollen in low doses and in a way your body can handle...kinda like like idea of when we get a vaccine or immunizations.
Wow, really?! I better start getting my daily dose of local honey. That's a great tip nikko!
