The recent issue of CS Interiors includes a feature by Lisa Cregan and Amalie Drury that profiles seven of the people who help define the term "Chicago Design". First up is Mr. Berkus, who according to the article, grew up "in Minnesota with a decorator mom" and "interned his way through Lake Forest College working for...
...Leslie Hindman's Auction House". (Leslie is also on the list, btw). Richard Wright (of Wright Auction House) is included, as is gallerist Alan Koppel and designer Holly Hunt.
Check out the rest of the list and the profiles of all of them in the Summer 2009 issue of CS Interiors on newsstands and online.
Who would you add to the list?

I am biased (disclosure: I work there) but I think Caroline Scheeler of Jayson Home & Garden consistently puts forth some of the most original concepts in design and visual merchandising anywhere. She was repurposing vintage finds in her own unique style 10 years before anyone ever heard the word eco-friendly. She keeps under the radar but there is no doubt she has helped make Chicago a "global design hotspot."
