031108bosch.jpg031108abtlogo.jpgAt a friend's suggestion, we headed out to Abt Electronics on our big quest for a fridge and dishwasher. The Glenview location allows for the hugest showroom we've ever seen - with everything that falls under the "electronics" or "appliances" umbrellas. The place was packed on a Saturday, but apparently that was nothing compared to the store's recent customer appreciation day...

There's good reason for the draw: a great variety in brands, styles, prices. We went just to look but ended up buying a Bosch dishwasher and a Jenn-Air floor model fridge (got $1000 off on the floor model - definitely ask about such deals). We worked with an excellent sales associate who seemed to know every answer to all of our questions without missing a beat, and he was attentive and helpful without being pushy.

Delivery came a week later at no cost, and they charged only $20 to remove our old appliances and return to their warehouse to recycle.

It's an effort to get there, but we think it's worth it for big purchases (and maybe for small ones too). What are your experiences with Abt??

Here is some Abt discussion from past AT:Chicago threads.

I bought a Viking cooktop from ABT last summer. The installation more expensive than usual because they had to file the granite down to install it. I was biting my nails through the whole thing, but it turned out fine. I would highly recommend ABT!

After some very frustrating problems with other electronics/appliance stores---mostly with customer service---I completely agree that shopping somewhere like Abt is a good idea, even if it costs a little more. Once I went there hoping to buy an extra power cable for a Bose SoundDock. I could have bought it online for $50 shipping but I was hoping to at least save on the shipping cost. The customer service guy at Abt looked around in the back, found one, and GAVE it to me. I was speechless. I remember a sign in there that said "no reasonable request will be refused" or something like that. They weren't kidding.

I bought my LCD TV there about a year and a half ago. They certainly know their stuff, and the showroom is amazing.

As for prices, they will certainly match or often beat other prices. At the time I bought my TV, I got them to price-match what Amazon(?) showed on their website, which took about $125 off the price, and them got them to adjust the price again the day after Thanksgiving when Circuit City had it as part of a 1-day sale, taking another $150 off.

I love love love ABT. Bought my washer/dryer and garbage disposal from them. They are not as flashy with their offers like Best Buy or others but carry a wide selection of brands which for me was great. My w/d was from Europe and they were the only place in the area to carry it. Installation was prompt and took exactly as long as they said. Overall very happy!
