apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Actor/Designer Bryan Batt on Bedroom Decor
House Beautiful

bb102309.jpgThe Mad Men lovers in the Apartment Therapy readership will definitely recognize the man above - actor Bryan Batt plays Salavatore Romano on the ever-popular show. On screen, his character Sal has a red bedroom - in real life, Bryan's room is mellow and quietly glam....

...with a Crate and Barrel bed and Sferra coverlet. Off screen, Bryan is also a designer and home goods shop owner, so in the November issue of House Beautiful, he shares some of his decorating tips, gives sources on how to recreate this look on a budget and some quick quotes on his bedroom, decorating style and bedside beverage of choice:

“Your bedroom either has to be bright and full of life or dark like a cocoon, and I always go for dark. For years, having been in theater, I would go to sleep so late that I had to block out any light coming in so I could sleep in.”

“I believe in mixing things. It doesn’t always have to be the highest end. If it looks good, it’s good.”

"I’m a slob! I’m a little bit Oscar Madison, and my partner, Tom Cianfichi, is Felix Ungar. I’m the one who would come to bed with a cigar and a beer. Sometimes I do bring a martini, but there’s no smoking allowed in bed.”

kjansson - that junk at the end of the bed is called styling! The objects in question may not always be placed at the end of the bed but for the sake of the photo add to the overall feel of the room completing the 'quietly glamorous' look.
I think this is a stunning room!
ps I'm sure his feet are very clean!
