apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Room Service

roomservice080408.jpgrslogo080408.jpgThere is a new shop in town - Paul Lechlinski has recently opened Room Service in Andersonville, specializing in mid-c modern home furnishings, decorative accessories and gifts. He sent Apartment Therapy a few photos and some info on the concept behind the shop:

roomservice2080408.jpgAccording to Paul, "the concept is not necessarily about “design” per se, but rather for the consumer who respects clean, modern elegant lines and values the idea of bringing home the collectible piece that they love. At Room Service the belief is that your home is not about perfection, or a specific “look” but rather creating an environment where you “live with what you love” by drawing your own personal point of view into the mix."

We haven't made it in to Room Service yet but are looking forward to it - has anyone stopped by for a visit?

Room Service is located at 5438 N. Clark, 773.878.5438.

I'm the same as Geri, I live a block away and walk by it everyday, but haven't gone in yet. Looks like I need to stop by.

I live in Andersonville and I am always walking up and down Clark window shopping. I stopped in and they had some interesting items. They had opened shortly before I visited so it was a little bare as far as what they had in the shop, but what they did have was nice. It’s not my favorite shop of its kind in the neighborhood and it seems to be in an awkward location, but I will definitely stop back from time to time to see what they have.

I love this store.

I attended Andersonville sidewalk sale, and stumbled upon this shop. The owner of "haus" recommended I stop by and wow was I impressed! I only wish I would have remembered my AmEx because I could have gotten into a lot of trouble in that place

Highly recommended.

I guess I need to stop procrastinating on that trip to Andersonville. Every time I turn around, I hear about another great shop there.

I finally stopped by this store last week and was really impressed with the stock -- 7-pc Paul McCobb dining set, the AWESOME Hans Olsen dining room set that everyone (including me!) loved from one of the Small Cool posts this year. I have to say, though, that the prices seemed really exorbitant, even for meticulously restored mid-c pieces. I've been hunting for that Hans Olsen set and was so excited to find it, but he's asking $4500 (!!!), which seems like a lot (one recently sold on eBay for $2500). Case in point: Room Service is charging $120 for an enamel bowl that a friend and I found last weekend at the Edgewater Antique Mall for $40. When I asked the guys at Edgewater what they thought of Room Service they told me that they suspect the owner is hoping that customers aren't savvy enough to know that these pieces are available elsewhere for less money (to those willing to do a little digging around).

Maybe I'm wrong! Maybe to those with a more generous budget (which, sadly, don't have! :) these will seem like great deals. For me, though, this will have to be a place for inspiration rather than acquisition!

caty80, I felt the same way about that table and chairs! $4500 is definitely a bit much and totally out of my range. Interesting to hear what the folks at Edgewater Antique Mall. I love them there!

But prices aside, the owner has a great eye. A nice collection and yet another Andersonville store that I'll drool over. Great for inspiration.

I've made the trek 3 times from WP since they've opened!! I have to say that the owner is one of the kindest people I've met. He and his partner have gone above and beyond to bring a fresh perspective to what otherwise would "old stuff". I purchased a set of chairs and they delivered them to my place the next afternoon...at NO CHARGE! To those whining about prices, a LOT of energy, cost and work goes into acquiring vintage furnishings, and I speak from experience after owning an antique store in the West Village NY for 15 years. The mix of new and old can be quite challenging to pull off as they have and BRAVO to them for being a success! I'll be back there for sure!!

$40 caty80?! I found that same enamel bowl for $3.50 at my local thrift shop :)

I agree with you, coasttocoast! I've been to Room Service a couple times and I've fallen in love with several pieces. Understanding that quality is not free, I am saving my pennies. To assume that the owner is hoping that customers aren't price savvy is erring on the side of paranoia. The quality of the furnishings at Room Service is impeccable. Plus, the owner and his partner couldn't be more charming or helpful.

Whoa LADIES! Calm down! I have been watching this Frem Rojle table since they opened for a client and am awaiting their return from holiday for a decision. The price is fair and valid for the condition. The set is pristene. In consideration that the set that was on ebay was for a set of (4) 4-legged chairs each, as opposed to the above mentioned set which has (6) 3-legged chairs. This is definitely a rarity. The table also has a built-in leaf, of which the other set on ebay did not. As a designer, Room Service has an amazing selection of worthy pieces for any budget. I'd recommend a 2nd job. Room Service has done all the work for most of us!!
