Discovering Scout was a pretty exciting moment. A friend had been telling us about it for a while, and venturing into this beautifully laid out Andersonville shop gave us reason to pause and stare at every detail and item. The website declares071306scout1.jpg it well: Scout is "less about style and more about a feeling."

The handpicked antique and new items in the shop represent an innovative, fresh approach to antiquing, something that Chicagoans seem to be all about these days.

This week's Battle of the Gayborhoods in Time Out Chicago (Boystown v. Andersonville) did not include a comparison of home stores or antique shops, so we're adding it to the battlezone list...

Between White Attic, The Brown Elephant, Urbanest, and Scout, we're leaning toward Andersonville (even though Boystown boasts I.D.)...

We'd love to hear some reader reviews on this one!

Love Scout. They always have the best and constantly changing window displays. Whatever is there always draws me in.

A-ville wins, hands down, in terms of number and quality of home shops, in my opinion.

Finally! I'll be moving to Chicago in August, and I was hoping to find a store like this, though I can't help but wonder how "affordable" it really is.

yvette:
we didn't write down any detailed $$amounts, but noticed two things: the quality of every piece was "rock star" and we'd say prices were "deluxe" (to use AT rating language). some things seemed steep to us; but the pricing may be well worth it depending on the story behind each item (ie. how rare, how used, etc.). the owner is willing to share these stories, so be sure to ask!

Love this store, I have picked up so many great deals here,it's a joy and very inspiring always worth a look, things change quickly there. Larry is so approachable, no attitude here. That, in and of itself is so refreshing.

Wait a minute! Boystown also has Addendum, Equinox, Apt. No. 5, Guava all within two blocks (between Aldine and Roscoe on Broadway)...

Scout is great, wonderfully characterful stuff, and it always carries some small affordable items for those who have less than forty dollars to spend.

Scout is great - prices range from groupie to rock star (to use the At verbiage), but it's always fun to look at the well-edited selection. Great, friendly staff too!
