i love the look of the Jasper Morrison one, but you seem to get more bang for the buck with the Krups model.

A toaster should never cost more than ~$20-$30. This is just so wrong in so many ways. Go to Target and get a stainless steel Black & Decker and you're fine.

I would feel very pretentious if I owned a toaster named Alessi.
Can I vote for my $34.99 Hamilton Beach Toastation? Its sleek curved handle and dual toasting system make me feel, uh, like eating toast.

I have the Jasper Morrison one, and I love it. It's quiet, discreet, and takes up very little counter space.

that's what we all need...discreet toasters. Unless it folds your laundry and takes out the trash too, I'm with Talloush - toasters should not cost anywhere close to $150.

I bought a DeLonghi toaster oven about 10 years ago when I lived in NYC and never used my oven again there. When I moved back to CA, I have a kitchen that is easily 4 times the size and I STILL use the toaster oven instead of my big one. I've read that they are no longer as well made as my old white one when I was looking for a stainless one for my parents' newly remodeled kitchen--bummer. I think I'd get them the Krups if the ratings were more than just cool looking. I think the Alessi one is gorgeous, but I'd want it to do more than just toast. The cheapo ones like proctor silex seem to only last about a year.

I agree that a toaster should not be costing $150. I mean, it's just toast, right? How good can it be?

$150-$198 is a lot of scratch for a toaster. i reckon people plan to display these *modern toasters* proudly on their Carrera marble countertops? If they perform as well as a $50-$70 Cuisinart toaster, then go for it...

I second the $30 Black and Decker toaster oven vote. I used mine for 4 years before giving it to a room mate a couple of years ago. It's still going strong for him.

I've got an Oster toaster oven. I don't remember its cost exactly, but it was about midway between the $30 Black and Decker and the $175 Krups. It's bigger than either one. I use it more as an oven than as a toaster, as we're not big on toast in this house. But its great for DH who is a sweet potato fiend and will happily eat them every night of the week. Unless I'm cooking something in the big oven already, I just toss a sweet potato into the toaster oven and its usually done by the time the rest of dinner is. It's big enough that I could do a small chicken if I wanted or a small roast of some kind.

If Rowenta makes toasters like they make clothes irons, I will take one! The iron was a bit spendy, but worth every penny.

Why own a toaster when we all have oven/broilers? Let's reduce, people.

My $40 Black & Decker is now 15 years old and still going strong. I pull it out each morning, do some toasting, and put it away after it cools. Its not pretty but it works quite well.

After reading a large number of reviews, The Jasper Morrison toaster is not well made/built. Unfortunately I dropped my 15-year old toaster and the handle is broken. I now open the toaster with a knife... not good.

I ended up with a Breville toaster and so far so good. It works and its small.
