What to do when your record player conks out (assuming some folks out there still have a record player)? We used to have a turntable, but it died and buying a new one seemed a little out of step with the current century.
Now we have a vinyl-friendly option for 2007, the Ion USB Turntable from Urban Outfitters.
The Tribune gave it a thumbs up, and this post from Home Tech offers a similar alternative. We like the fact that this model looks a lot like our old record player, but gives us a way to play LPs on our iPod.

If you want to have your turntable fixed instead of buying a new one, this place does a good job. Or you can pick up used stereo equipment too-

Well, since every time you play vinyl, you damage it, I'd recommend recording your vinyl to a lossless format like FLAC, and only play the digital version for day to day listening and save the vinyl-listening for special occasions when you need the full sound of the vinyl.
Back in the day we'd record the vinyl to reel-reel tapes (at a fast speed of course for the best dynamic range) and play only the tapes.
These days my whole collection resides on a media server that lets me stream them to the living room stereo. Gotta love technology. ;->

we were early adopters of I-whatever technology and bought and still use an i-River that allows line-in recording, so we've digitized a lot of vinyl that way. sadly, they don't make these anymore...

How could you not care what your money ultimately ends up?
There are tons of other places that sell the same things that don't do what Urban Outfitters or Anthropologie does.
