We learned of Marlon Blackwell through photos of his own "L-Stack" home (shown above), which won a 2008 AIA award. Based in Fayetteville, Arkansas, the architect designs modern houses that take advantage of the gorgeous southern landscape. Checking out his site, we were impressed by the originality of the buildings: a modernist tower in the middle of a forest, a honeycomb house for a beekeeper. Arkansas House

In this barn conversion, glass and metal siding transform the facade into a work of art. It sits on 8 acres above a river bluff.

This home in Fayetteville, dubbed the Keenan Towerhouse, soars 80 feet into the air. The upper floors have 360 degree views of the surrounding landscape, and there's a skydeck at the top of the tower.

2 Square House

Srygley Office Building

This structure was built for a beekeeper in North Carolina. It combines workspace with a honeycomb-patterned glass display wall.

Beautiful! I grew up in that area and spent many of my formative years in Fayetteville. I remember when the Keenan TowerHouse was built... it seemed like one day it wasn't there, the next it was. I even drove all over that wooded hill trying to find it and figure out what it was.
ah Arkansas, I miss you sometimes.

First three pics are absolutely amazing. Although this style is completely different to how I am (happily) living my life now, I could definitely see my self "trying" modern in the future.
