Kansas City's el dorado architecture firm has produced some amazing residential buildings, many of them sustainably designed. One of our favorites is principal Jamie Darnell's self-designed home (shown above), which uses a structural insulated panel system for noise reduction and energy-efficiency...

el dorado's warm approach to modernism appeals to us. Although a quarter of their time spent is designing, fabricating, and constructing with steel, their projects don't feel cold at all.

Natural light and tactile materials warm up these open spaces. We also love the interior design in some of these rooms.
Since the firm's founding in 1996, el dorado's award-winning projects have been featured in Dwell, Metropolis, Metropolitan Home, and Art in America.
