Affordable Art: For a Brief Time Only by ASDF

11-24-08photo2.jpg

Collaborative digital art group ASDF has compiled an instant photo exhibition that anyone in the US, Canada or the UK can purchase for the cost of film development at their local drug store. For a Brief Time Only offers a set of 24 four-by-six photos that can be sent via the web to any store that allows online uploading. Through December 4th you can email ASDF, request to see the show, and pick up your order at the location nearest you...

The photo kit includes prints by 24 artists and a contact sheet with artists' names and titles. To see the show, email ASDF (click here for info), follow their instructions, and pick up your photos. As a collaborative enterprise, ASDF explores various ways in which free access and reproduction can be disseminated through the Internet. Artwork is available for nothing more than the cost of development paid to the store. For more information, click here.

This is a really interesting idea, although artists really should charge for their work in some way, not just support photo-developing businesses!

I love collective, accessible projects like this. :)
