Reading Design for Mankind last night, we came across a link to these charming embroidered artworks. Beautiful work! The first one is gorgeous.

Pretty crude and amateurish for the prices, I'm thinking... For that price range, I'd expect more delicacy and expertise and less machine stitching... or at least a hefty dontation to charity. Sorry, but I do better embroidery work than that...

The prices are shocking.
I do embroidery work, it's my latest hobby. These have given me some great ideas for my own stuff!

I have to agree with SherryBinNH and BambiJo about the prices and level of expertise. I'm a textile geek and have been able to embroider, sew, knit, crochet, spin and weave since I was a little girl and I would be able to reproduce all of the above pieces without too much trouble.
BUT I guess you're paying for the original art and not just the quality of the work.

I've actually been to the gallery and the best pieces aren't even shown here!! The prices might be high if you are thinking about the actual materials but it's a creativity, time, and passion of the artist you are paying for... and in my case I always think I'm going to make some craft and it ends of half done and then I always wish I just bought the original piece I was inspired by. Non-buyers remorse.
Anyway, the day after the opening they had a four hour workshop with some of the artists for only $40 a person, materials included!!! I went and the time flew by, I learned a lot (I'm a pretty novice stitcher but it was for all levels) and the conversation with all the ladies was a riot :)

The third one is awesome. I'm an embroiderer and really love these. I need to get away from patterns and start making my own.

I love the second one, if it weren't the four time the cost of the others I would consider buying them. I can crochet and knit, but I never learned to do embroidery.

That $80 is better spent on a donation to St. Judes.

I'd have to agree with jennycupcake! No offense to these particular artists, but this is a pretty unrepresentative selection of the pieces that were in the show! The show was pretty terrific!
To Seaside: Couldn't that be said about most every purchase, particularly on a decorating blog?
