Gallery Art Hanging System

2008-04-23-Hanging.jpgWe recently found a great new solution to hang art on our walls. Looking for art display options other than the traditional nail and picture hanger we have used on all of our previous projects, we checked out this gallery style system from...

2008-04-23-Hanging 2.jpg...AS Hanging Systems. They feature three different options - Classic, Cable and Click Rail (pictured here). Simply install a rail mount at top of your wall, connect your cables to the rail and then attach your art using a self-gripping hook.

We installed a 24’ rail system in under two hours and now have a hallway that looks like a professional art gallery. Best of all, we can change and rearrange our art without having to patch and create even more little nail holes in the wall.

Many variables that go into the final cost (type of system, finish of the mounting rail, number of pictures, length of wall, etc). For the wall we did, we used the click rail system and spent around $300 (this includes shipping) for a 24' wall with 10 pictures varying in size on the wall.

The prices are very clearly laid out on the website and it's extremely easy to figure the final cost with their shopping cart feature.

Have been looking at this company for an upcoming job... but I'm actually looking for a track that would be inset into wood wall paneling or a leather-tiled wall, about a foot down from ceiling. I think this could work that way, but was wondering if anyone knew of a company that does more of what I describe.

Nothing new about this at all...

There's something called "Picture Rail Moulding" - It was often installed in homes from the 1700's until about WWII about a foot or so down from the ceiling. It was used to hang paintings and mirrors without breaking into delicate plaster walls and/or ruining expensive wallpapers.

Often, local hardware stores in communities that have many older homes (such as we have in SF) will carry hooks specifically for use with picture moulding.

this is new... the new thing is the self-gripping hook.

I have picture railing in my old apartment. I have had a hell of a time finding picture hanging tools that can accommodate hanging art in vertical alignment. It's impossible, because each piece of art requires its own picture-molding hook.

But this AS system lets you hang several pictures along a single cord with the self-gripping hooks.

But I am unwilling to pay $17.50 for ground shipping for $3 hooks!! Are there any local retailers that sell this????

my aunt used this along her entire hall - lots of art and family photos - but the only thing i don't like about these is how the pictures kinda knock around - in the breeze, when you walk down the hall, etc. it's really annoying. i much prefer nails. or ledges. or heavier frames?

Oy, bepsf, do you have to come at things so negatively every time?

Maybe there is nothing new about this CONCPET, but YOU try finding a source for this, with a modern aesthetic and modular nature, and then tell me whether or not this warrants a post here.

And the "available at any hardware store" hooks you descrbe are NOT the same thing.

Sheez.

Love the idea and if you want to take it up a notch - we are actually contemplating hanging a carpet on our dining area wall using this system.
A friend of mine used it to hang a decently sized Persian rug (better than having people walk all over it and ruin it!).
