We got a fun email from Erin about the art in her home. Her place is colorful, fresh and full of good ideas on DIY and vintage art. Here's what she had to say:
"A year after moving in we still had a big, blank bright orange wall above our awful sofa and I was getting desperate for affordable artwork that could compete with the color. My husband and I came up with this together, thinking of games we used to play as children.
He found the board games on ebay, ranging in era from the 1950s - 1970s and each costing under $10. I made the frames myself, and we keep the boxes with all of the game parts under one of our endtables, ready to play by simply pulling the framed game board off the wall!"
"I wanted to have fun with my kitchen, running with the retro kitsch to which our appliances lend themselves. We both love the flower painting and enjoy the way the clock echos the lines of the flower. Across the kitchen I hung a grouping of items found at The Brown Elephant, my favorite thrift shop."
"Working around the classic furniture handed down to me, I decided to keep our bedroom more muted in tone. I created the pieces above the bed from the fabrics that were my original inspiration, and my husband, jokingly, suggested we frame a pair of vintage Guinness ads on the adjacent wall (only one is visible in the picture, but they flank our window). I initially laughed at the idea, but they're now my favorite thing in the room."
