Inexpensive, colorful, tempting - Japanese yuzen paper is a good thing. This patterned paper is usually used as a decorative accent for book binding, as envelope linings, for crafts such as paper dolls and boxmaking. Yuzen or chiyogami is available in numerous colors, and is an inexpensive way to introduce a bit of color to a room as artwork. The photo above, from the Rag & Bone blog shows it wrapped around canvases, like wrapped presents for your walls.

i've done this... it's easy with dollar-store canvases and nice paper.
great 'art' for those who can't afford 'art' - yet
Can anyone recommend good paper stores in the city where I could find paper like this?

Great tip!
We just posted images from our Yuzen art project over at the Rag & Bone blog. Cheers, Jason!
The Paper Source and Pearl Art Supply also have some lovely art-worthy paper. The most recent Paper Source newsletter/catalog also had a blurb on attatching paper to canvas.
Love this idea. I've seen similar work done with felt and felt cutouts.
Anyone have a great online resource for cheap canvases?
Terrific idea! Is some sort of glue or spray adhesive used?
